You don’t need to buy any expensive cleaning kits to clean your laptop/notebook screen or your flat-screen LCD. Also you won’t need any cleaning chemical or solution.
Here’s the list of what I use to clean my notebook / desktop LCD:
- A little bit of water: I use lukewarm water, but, tap water is ok.
- A clean soft paintbrush.
- An air blower: I use an air blower to blow some the dust sticking on the screen and on keyboards. Air blowers like the one on the picture are sold on many photography stores. They are mainly used to clean camera lenses and sensors. I recommend getting the Giottos Rocket Air Blaster , great for cleaning cameras especially DSLRs, I also use it on my notebook and PC.
- A micro fiber cloth: These cloths are available on optical glass stores, photography stores, or on the optical section of some stores like Walmart or CVS. These are mostly used to clean eye glasses and camera lenses. Here are some of the cloths available online:
Before you clean or wipe the LCd, use the air blower to blow any dust particles off your LCD. Why? Because you can accidentally scratch it, if you don’t have a blower, you can use the paintbrush to gently remove the dust particles, and if you don’t have a paintbrush, you can use the dry microfiber cloth to dust of the particles, remember, don’t wipe it yet. After you remove the dust, you can now use the micro fiber cloth to clean the monitor, remove smudges and finger prints by dumping the microfiber cloth slightly on the lukewarm water, you can also use a little spray bottle to spray a little bit of water on the LCD screen, and gently wipe it with the micro fiber cloth.
There are also cheap cleaning kits that you can get, there’s one for around $10.00, complete with brush, cloth, and blower, it also comes with a cleaning solution for camera lenses, I bought one for my DSLR, you can use this for cameras and laptops. I have the Giottos Multi-Optical Cleaner Kit . If you do decide to get a kit, get this one. It’s a great product.
